Mu guess is they couldn't obtain "hub" motors with sufficient power,  
so they doubled the number of wheels?

(And then realised that 8 wheels makes the vehicle more intriguing  
anyway - and isn't that what concepts are all about? ;)

It uses hub motors.  They can't be too big otherwise excessive un-sprung
weight.  So, More wheels equals more motors.
