The Silicon Valley EAA Chapter Rally 2012 will not be held at the Palo
Alto, CA HS as in previous years http://eaasv.org/rally.html The chapter contacts have changed, so check that page for the current ones. That page states they have moved the rally to De Anza College in Cupertino, CA (~10 miles SW) 21250 Stevens Creek Boulevard, Cupertino, CA 95014 I am hoping it is in parking lot A which near Stevens Creek Blvd. (more public visibility from outside the campus), but that is not confirmed. Here are a couple campus maps for you to gander at: http://www.deanza.edu/map/images/campusmap.jpg Overhead view http://www.deanza.edu/vtour/images/vt-campus-map-v19.jpg 3D view from Stevens Creek Blvd I also asked if there will be charging at the rally same as before. Until I hear back, an alternate method would be public EVSE which be found using http://www.recargo.com/search?search=95014&filters[]=1772 This rally is happening on the same date as the National Plug-In Day 2012 on Sun 10a-4p 9/23/2012. http://www.pluginamerica.org/calendar/2012-national-plug-day https://www.fac ebook.com/nationalpluginday I have put out a feeler to the Chapter to garner some more detail. Hopefully, later I will have another post with an update. ... Also, I have put out a feeler to my Coulomb contact asking if Coulomb plans to offer their free RFID card same as last year. Hi Bruce,
Thanks for the reminder, I had not looked at the SV website since a month and happened to talk to a neighbor today who brought up the Rally in Palo Alto that he attended before and test-drove Leaf, Volt and Tesla. Obviously he is interested and when he saw me working on my EV truck, he walked over for a chat. Good to know it will be in Cupertino - that is even closer for me and even if there is no recharging, I should be able to make it home without trouble - unless I am giving rides, then it would be good to have charging. I can use NEMA 5-15 (120V) or L6-20 (240V) For people who like to come by bicycle and approach from Sunnyvale side - the bridge in Mary Ave across the 280 freeway is a low stress way to get to the De Anza (south) side of 280. Also know that there is a new bike/ped bridge across the 85 freeway as part of the Stevens Creek trail, so coming from Mountain View or even north/east Palo Alto you can utilize both to cross those two freeways but an alternative is the Foothill expressway, though you may still use Homestead and Mary to reach De Anza (not by car!) If I can't get my EV fixed for some reason, I will still bring my e-Bike. I made some pics with it in De Anza parking lot, in front of the huge solar arrays that shadow most of the parking area. http://www.evdl.org/archive/index.html#nabble-td4657145 ] Update: The Silicon Valley EAA Chapter has updated their Rally page http://eaasv.org/rally.html But I felt it needed a little more detail/hand-holding to entice drivers and the public to come this free EVent. See http://brucedp12.20m.com/eaasvr2012/ That page has some good info so check it out. On that page you will see the large power panel that I upgraded to reduce its large number of level-1 receptacles and increase its level-2 receptacles. It was just picked up today and in the hands of the Chapter's member-electrician. He will do a check of my work and then hook it up for the rally to use the morning of the EVent. This move from Palo Alto High School to Cupertino's De Anza College is a bold decision, as it has 800+ parking spaces in parking lot A that the Chapter has already prepaid for (thus making it free for EVent attendees to park in). And the huge overhead solar canopy is something to behold. This is not just a wee-little canopy. It covers half of parking lot A. It and the other solar structures are very large scale. This also means drivers displaying their vehicles or vendors hawking their wares will have a cooler time in the partial shade. Same as always to display your vehicle or to get a vendor booth requires a small fee to help offset the cost of using the College's parking lot (see rally page). De Anza changed their long row of staff parking to EV parking. Though the spots are signed they are not painted, nor is there any EVSE installed: the Chapter's two power panels will supply the juice to recharge hungry plug-in vehicles. So come for the EVent, come for the solar electrons, but don't miss all the the fun! . ____ ~/__|o\__ '@----- @'---(= Get Amp'd Bruce {EVangel} Parmenter brucedp.150m.com *Originator of the above ASCII art % Renewable Energy for your Electric Vehicle % |

http://www.evdl.org/archive/index.html#nabble-td4657145 ] Despite the fact that my joints caused me pain this morning (it was going to be one of those days), I pushed though it because we were all having such a good time. I will not go into detail until later, as I need to put this old-body to bed for a recharge of its own.
